Web3x3 is a community-driven initiative. There are various rules and acknowledgments that you must agree to before participating in Web3x3. This ensures that we can conduct the tournament in a safe and effective manner.
Values of Web3x3
We look forward to your involvement in Web3x3 and hope it helps bring the Hong Kong FinTech community closer together!
We expect all participants to adhere to and respect the following values of Web3x3:
- Social: The primary intention of the Web3x3 Basketball Tournament is to allow people within the FinTech industry to socialize after work and participate in team-building activities. This is not a professional competition; it aims to bring together players of different ages, skill levels, and genders.
- Respect: Please ensure that you behave respectfully and appropriately towards other players, referees, and staff while participating in the Web3x3 Basketball Tournament. We want everyone to have fun at Web3x3 while playing responsibly and considering the safety of both others and themselves.
- Eligibility: Players participating in Web3x3 must be over 18 years old and working full-time in the financial services, technology, or related industries. Web3x3 is a friendly amateur league that does not accept professional basketball players.
Acknowledgement and Waiver of Risks
By participating in Web3x3, you agree to the following:
- Accidents and injuries may occur! Basketball is highly enjoyable, but it is a physical sport, and injuries can happen. Please warm up and stretch before and after the game, and exercise appropriate responsibility and caution, both for yourself and other players, during games.
- Waiver of risks and no liability for us. You accept all risks and losses (including injury, accidents, property damage, or physical harm) arising from your participation in Web3x3, and we are not liable for any such risks and losses. You agree to indemnify us for any losses or damages incurred by us as a result of your participation in Web3x3.
- No insurance. We have not, and Web3x3 does not provide, any accident, personal, or third-party insurance for any player, coach, or team. Please arrange your own medical or other insurance as needed.
- Comply with Web3x3's rules. The rules of Web3x3 are outlined below. These rules are in place to ensure a fair, safe, and fun competition. You agree to comply with all such rules during your participation in the Web3x3 basketball tournament. If you do not agree to the rules, you will be prohibited from participating in Web3x3.
- Changes to rules. Things can change quickly, and we may need to modify Web3x3's rules and schedule at any time to address changing circumstances (e.g., games may need to be rescheduled, or rules adjusted to ensure players' safety). We will, where reasonably practicable, provide you with prior notice and consult team captains within Web3x3 regarding such changes.
Web3x3 Rules
Web3x3 will be conducted in accordance with the following rules:
Game Format
- Each game will last 10 minutes.
- Matches will be played on a half-court.
- A running clock will be used, with no half-time.
- Substitution is permitted when the ball becomes dead.
- The game ends when either of the following occurs:some text
- 10 minutes have elapsed.
- A team reaches 21 points.
- In the case of a draw at the end of the 10 minutes, the game will go into overtime, where the first team to score 2 points wins.
Competition Regulations
- Each team must consist of a minimum of four players and a maximum of six players.
- Each team must include at least one female player on the court at all times during a game.
- Each team has one 30-second timeout, which is not allowed to be used in the last minute of the game.
- The team that scores 21 points within the game time wins. If neither team scores 21 points by the end of the game, the team with the higher score wins.
Except for the specific competition system of this event, other competition rules are in accordance with FIBA Official 3x3 Basketball Rules.
Competition Format
During the preliminary round on October 26, 2024, teams will be divided into groups of 5, totaling 4 groups (i.e., 20 teams in all). Matches will follow a round-robin format, with the top team from each group progressing to the playoffs, set for October 29th at Hong Kong FinTech Week.
Determination of Group Ranking (from most to least important factor)
- Team with the most wins.
- Team with the highest overall scoring average (excluding points from forfeit wins).
- Team with the lowest average points conceded overall.
- Team with the fewest total fouls committed.
Team Jerseys
Each team must provide their own jerseys for Web3x3 that CLEARLY display their team’s name and/or logo. The team jerseys must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Jerseys of the same dominant color front and back as the shorts. If the jerseys have sleeves, they must end above the elbow. Long-sleeved clothing is not permitted. All players must tuck their jersey tops into their playing shorts. ‘All-in-ones’ are permitted.
- Jersey numbers must be clearly visible and limited to the range of 0-99.
- Teams are required to have at least two different colored jersey sets prepared (i.e., home kit and away kit).
- Players should wear standard basketball attire approved by Web3x3, including proper basketball or athletic shorts and basketball shoes.
- No jewelry like chains, metal bangles, or rings should be worn during matches.
- Players must ensure their fingernails are trimmed.
‘No Draw’ Rule
Drawn matches are not permitted. In the event of a tie at the end of regular playing time:
- Overtime will be initiated, with the team that began the game as the defensive team receiving the first possession. The team that scores 2 points first in overtime will be declared the winner.
- During the finals, a single 5-minute overtime period will occur. If the game remains tied at the end of this period, the ‘Golden Bucket’ rule will be implemented, indicating that the first team to score a point will claim victory.
‘No Show’ Rule / Forfeit
- A ‘No Show’ is defined as a team failing to appear for a match entirely or having fewer than 3 players (including at least 1 female player) ready to start within 5 minutes of the scheduled time.
- Each team must have at least one female player present on the court for every game.
- In the event of an injury occurring after the game has started, resulting in a team not having a female player available, that team may continue to play with 3 male players only on the court at any time.
- If a team is labeled as a ‘no show’ for a scheduled match, a forfeit will be granted to the opposing team, resulting in a win being awarded to them.
Scorekeeping:
Any errors or mistakes in scoring or timekeeping can be rectified by the officials before the referee signals the end of the game. Both teams will be informed of any corrections made.
If there are any concerns regarding the aforementioned, teams should address the officials before the game concludes. Once the final whistle is blown, all results are deemed final, and no appeals will be considered thereafter.
Tournament Referees:
The Basketball Association of Hong Kong, China will provide one qualified referee for each match during the preliminary round. For the playoffs, two qualified referees will be provided by the Basketball Association of Hong Kong, China.
Team and Player Registration:
Prior to their first game, all players must fill out the e-registration form (this can be completed by their team captain).
Player eligibility will be verified by checking each player's HKID card during both the preliminary rounds and the playoffs to confirm that all players are properly registered to participate in Web3x3.
Match Results
Match results will be updated on the following day of Web3x3 on the FIBA Web3x3 website.
Prizes and Awards
- A champion trophy and medals for the 1st place team
- Trophies and medals for the 2nd and 3rd place teams
- Individual prizes for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament

Additional Remarks
- All players must arrive at the venue for registration at least 30 minutes before their team's first game.
- All players must present valid identity documents, such as HKID, for registration.
- Teams have a grace period of up to 5 minutes past the designated start time to field a team with a minimum of 3 players. The game will be forfeited if the team is more than 5 minutes late for their scheduled game or has fewer than three players.
- Kindly bring your own basketball for warm-ups. The Wilson 3x3 Basketball (FIBA 3x3 Official Game Ball) will be utilized for the Web3x3 Basketball Tournament.
- Drinking water will be provided for all Web3x3 players.
- In the event of bad weather, the organizer will inform all players of the latest arrangements no later than 2 hours before the first preliminary or playoff game of Web3x3. If weather conditions worsen during the tournament, the organizer reserves the right to either proceed with or cancel the remaining games depending on the situation. Weather-related issues may also necessitate the postponement of the tournament, in which case it will be rescheduled to October 27th, 2024 (Sunday).
The organizer reserves the right to modify the competition rules or make other arrangements without prior notice to participants. In case of a dispute, the organizer's interpretation and decision will be final.
